How to Build in Places of Unique Architectural Character

These two images were produced by Liberatos Architects to illustrate what we call, “Charleston’s Choice.”

On the right, an Anywhere-USA “Texas Donut”, lined parking garage, on the left, a block-sized new development following our “Charleston Model.” This comparison was drawn from our design for a new neighborhood in Charleston’s Historic District. The result of this comparison found that the same number of residents can be housed in the local model as in the Texas Donut — while the local model also offers porches and gardens and the distinctive local charm that makes people want to live in Charleston in the first place. Beyond the housing numbers, there are numerous environmental, social and economic advantages to building in a local manner.
